This year we tried a winter garden for the first time. We planted green beans and peas. Our green bean harvest was small and is over. The peas are just now coming on. Our first pea harvest produced about a 1/2 cup shelled peas. We just harvested again yesterday and we received 2 cups and there are still more peas left on the vines to mature. I remember when I was little -- maybe 4 or 5 -- and I sat with Grandma Roberts on her back porch and helped her shell peas. I told my boys the story and they were excited to help me harvest and shell the peas, though they still won't eat them! I blanched them and stored them in the freezer, like Grandma taught me the first year that Jerry and I were married.

2010 FEB - Riparian Preserve Family Activity
Our trip at the beginning of February to the Riparian Preserve here in Gilbert. My Aunt Pam was in town and she was able to join us. We had fun identifying and learning about the birds. There's a photo below with Gideon on a bridge. If you look to the left in the photo you'll see a duck in flight that just left the bridge railing.
